CONVERSE x lava la rue x lucinda g

After a very Millenial two years of an instagram based friendship, myself and West London rapper LAVA LA RUE finally had a chance to collaborate on an incredible event hosted by CONVERSE LONDON, (for whom, Lava is a brand ambassador.)

As a part of their ‘RENEW’ and #SPARKPROGRESS Collection, Converse asked LAVA and myself to host a weekend of sustainable up-cycling workshops. The shoes launching that weekend were made from 100% recycled plastic, so naturally the workshops were aimed at educating consumers on the affects of Fast Fashion on our planet, whilst igniting creativity. Lava and I first bonded over the fact that we were both creating collections from high vis workwear, thrifting and being resourceful when creating.

Based in Coal Drops Yard, Lava and I designed and set up a space where people could attend workshops encouraging them to shop ethically and get creative with the recycling of clothing! I believe that when we invest time into our clothing (aka, the opposite of Fast Fashion) is when we begin to understand the value that our clothes SHOULD hold. Over-consumption, and crass Capitalism tells us that we need more to be happy, which we know to be a hugely damaging culture to both our planet and to those working to make the clothes.
